皮质类固醇可能造成消化性溃疡和胃肠(GI)出血，通常是在高剂量或长期。然而，即使是传统的剂量可能会加重病症的患者的历史胃溃疡。延迟愈合的溃疡也已经报道。治疗用皮质类固醇应当避免或给予谨慎的患者活动或潜伏的胃溃疡或其他危险因素GI出血。一些医生推荐使用预防性抗酸剂或H2-拮抗剂两餐之间的时候大剂量的皮质类固醇都是必要的。
